Stainless steel is a corrosion-resistant alloy of iron, chromium and, in some cases, nickel and other metals.
Stainless steel is also aesthetically appealing, extremely hygienic, easy to maintain, highly durable and offers a wide variety of aspects. As a result, stainless steel can be found in many everyday objects. It also plays a prominent role in an array of industries, including energy, transportation, building, research, medicine, food and logistics.
ASTM A240 304 Stainless Steel Sheets & Coils
304 (UNS S30400, 1.4301) stainless steel is a universal stainless steel, it is widely used to make equipment and machine parts that require good comprehensive performance. In order to maintain the inherent corrosion resistance of stainless steel, the steel must contain more than 18% chromium and more than 8% nickel content. 304 stainless steel is a grade of stainless steel produced in accordance with the American ASTM standard.
The most important elements in 304 stainless steel are Ni and Cr, but they are not limited to these two elements. The specific requirements are stipulated by the product standards. The common judgment in the industry is that as long as the Ni content is greater than 8% and the Cr content is greater than 18%, it can be considered as 304 stainless steel.

Commonly Used Grades
304 Stainless Steel and 316 Stainless Steel
Part of the austenitic family of stainless steel sheet grades, 304 stainless steel, and 316 stainless steel are among the most widely used.
304 stainless steel sheet is most notably present in industrial applications and kitchen equipment. 304 stainless steel sheet is a heat-resistant grade, offering good corrosion resistance to many chemical corrodents, as well as industrial atmospheres. With good formability, 304 stainless steel sheet can be readily welded by all common methods
An extra low carbon variation, 304L stainless steel sheet, avoids harmful carbide precipitation due to welding. This variation offers the same corrosion resistance as 304 stainless steel sheet, but with slightly lower mechanical properties.
316 stainless steel sheet is widely used for pumps, valves, textile and chemical equipment, pulp & paper and marine applications.
This grade is more resistant to corrosion and pitting than 304 stainless steel sheet and offers higher strength at elevated temperatures. In addition, 316L stainless steel sheet is an extra low carbon variation that helps avoid carbide precipitation due to welding.
201 Stainless Steel Sheet
Also part of the austenitic family of stainless steel, 201 stainless steel sheet was originally developed for sub-zero temperature applications. Through the years, it has also become a fit for a range of structural applications at ambient temperatures. This includes truck trailers, railroad freight cars, coal handling and other transportation equipment where good corrosion resistance, strength, and tolerance are necessary.
201 stainless steel sheet is formulated to have lower and more stable cost due to the substitution of lower-cost manganese and nitrogen for a portion of the nickel found in the 300 series alloys. This grade possesses a desirable combination of economy, plus good mechanical and corrosion properties.
430 Stainless Steel Sheet
Part of the ferritic family of stainless steel sheet grades, 430 stainless steel sheet is used in industrial and consumer products like fridge panels, chimney liners, dishwasher linings, and automotive trim.
This grade combines good corrosion and heat resistance with good mechanical properties. It also has excellent stress corrosion cracking resistance as well as resistance to organic acids and nitric acid.
